Well, April has arrived. We had a nice, unexpected rain overnight, which I’m sure the garden plants welcomed.
This past week, we ended up planting some cucurbits a little earlier than planned. The forecast has us mostly in the 60s, 70s, and even 80s, with only a couple of nights dipping into the high 30s. As usual, we’ll keep an eye on things and cover what we must so they’re as protected as we can make them.
We also planted the larger artichoke seedlings in the garden. This is our first year growing artichoke. They need a lot of space — five to six feet — which takes up a good bit of the garden, but we don’t mind. They’re beautiful plants, and we’re curious to see how they do here.
Next up for the garden is the solanaceae (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant), but they’ll wait until we’re more confident we’re past frost danger. The tomato seedlings are already beyond three to four inches tall, and today we’ll finish transplanting the last of the new seedlings into larger pots. We also have quite a few pepper varieties (banana, hot wax, jalapeño, bell) to move up today.
Things are stirring here as we move toward our next opening day — Friday, April 24. The brassicas have settled into their beds, the first herbs are waking, and the summer vegetables are getting started. There’s a rhythm returning — not loud, not hurried, just the slow gathering of a place getting ready to welcome people again. The order of the day is observe and adapt. It already feels like an odd weather year, but we’ll do our best.
Keep an eye on our 2026 Schedule page to see what we’ll have available. It’s a little far out right now, but as we get closer, we’ll update the list.
Something we’re working on: we’ve been gathering notes on what helps a life feel grounded and coherent. We’re calling them the Conditions for Living Well. It’s still in the works, but you’ll see bits of it here as it grows. You can visit the Our Philosophy page and the Conditions for Living Well page to see how things are progressing.
As we shape the Conditions, Shifts, and Practices, some of the early pieces are showing up in the Wayfarer Members space. It’s still unfinished, but if you like following things as they grow, you’re welcome there. We’ve kept it simple — a $7/month subscriber plan with deeper practices, early access to what’s taking shape, and a few things I only share there. It’s meant to feel light and accessible.
